DANCE WITH ME AUGUST 15 2010 August is a difficult month for me. It’s a month that has brought tremendous mourning. Twenty years ago, my daughter Julia died thirty-six hours after she was born. She was my second child and the second to die in my arms. During August I also lost the most precious gift God ever gave me. ( I did get it back a long while later. ) I also lost someone I cared for deeply very suddenly. There was no good-bye, no last words, no explanations-only the vast emptiness that was left behind. There is a time to mourn. Mourning is a very natural part of loss-the loss of a loved one, a marriage, a job, a friend a pet, anything that held value in the heart. I can’t say that I still don’t cry and mourn the losses that this month has brought. As we move through it one day we find ourselves laughing only to return to tears because we don’t feel we should be happy. Out of the blue one day we realize life has gone on and we haven’t been present in that movement. We have to be careful not to allow our mourning to become a strong hold that keeps us from God’s life for us. I was thinking about this in my quiet time and the Lord guided me to this passage, Psalm 30:11, “You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing.” The Message says, “whirling dance.” Webster’s says this about dancing, “to move lightly…or gaily about, as leaves in a wind.” Ecclesiastes 3:4, “there is…a time for mourning and a time for dancing.” We don’t forget about our losses, they will inevitably cross your minds and tug at our hearts. The important thing to remember and hear from Him is that it’s ok to move on and live again, have laughter and joy, to find adventure again, trust again, believe again, hope again and love again. Our Lord, our restorer, our savior, our comforter, and our God, has turned our mourning into dancing. He is waiting for us so He can ask this question, “Will you dance with me?” By Tamara Hunter |
